Why Two-Day Páramo Getaway?

If you have limited time to explore Los Nevados National Natural Park, this two-day adventure is the perfect option. Discover the spectacular high-Andean landscapes of the park, surrounded by dramatic mountains, páramo ecosystems and unique vegetation.

Along the way, you will encounter the iconic frailejones (Espeletia), remarkable plants that play a vital role in the páramo ecosystem by capturing moisture and helping regulate the region’s water supply. 2 days of adventure and spectacular páramo landscapes

Hiking Through Misty Forests and Giant Wax Palms

After a delicious breakfast, we head to the Cocora Valley, home to the world’s tallest wax palms, at an elevation of 2,400 meters (7,874 ft). From there, we begin a 14 km hike through the cloud forest, surrounded by mosses, bromeliads, and orchids, gradually ascending to a mountain farm at 3,750 meters (12,303 ft). Upon arrival, we will enjoy dinner and spend the night, resting and preparing for the next day’s adventure.

Páramo Exploration & Descent to Cocora Valley

After an early breakfast at the mountain farm, we begin our ascent into the Andean páramo, one of the most important ecosystems in Los Nevados National Natural Park. Reaching a maximum altitude of 4,200 meters (13,780 ft), we’ll enjoy spectacular views of Paramillo del Quindío and Nevado del Tolima, surrounded by landscapes covered with iconic frailejones.

We then descend along a different trail, passing through diverse ecosystems with opportunities to spot native birds and wildlife. Following the San José River Canyon, the trail leads us back through the wax palm forests to Cocora Valley, where transportation will be waiting to take us to the charming town of Salento. There, we will enjoy lunch before concluding our adventure.
