TOUR DESCRIPTION
This is a 3-day, 2-night traverse covering approximately 40 km between Potosí and the Cocora Valley. We will hike through cloud forests, ascend into páramo ecosystems, and reach a maximum altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level.
The highlight of the route is Laguna del Otún, one of the most important bodies of water in Los Nevados National Natural Park.
Nights are spent in traditional mountain farmhouses, with simple accommodations that reflect rural life. This is a moderate-difficulty route, ideal for people in good physical condition who are seeking an authentic high-mountain experience.
ITINERARY
Day 1: Potosí (3,900 m a.s.l.) – Berlín (3,800 m a.s.l.)
Maximum altitude: 4,200 m a.s.l.
Minimum altitude: 3,590 m a.s.l.
Distance: 19 km
We begin the journey from Manizales in a 4×4 vehicle, traveling for approximately 3 hours along an unpaved road until we reach the entrance area of Los Nevados National Natural Park. Upon arrival at a mountain farm, we have breakfast and complete the park registration process. There, we receive a brief orientation about the route. Afterwards, we start the hike toward the farm where we will spend the night. Along the way, we pass by Laguna del Otún and cross páramo landscapes, characterized by open terrain, frailejones, and high-mountain scenery.
Day 2: Berlín Farm (3,800 m a.s.l.) – Buenos Aires (3,750 m a.s.l.)

Maximum altitude: 4,800 m a.s.l.
Distance: 7 km
We start the day very early. After a hearty breakfast and a hot drink, we begin hiking uphill through the páramo ecosystem, where we observe impressive rock formations that are part of the landscape. During the day, we make an attempt to summit Paramillo del Quindío, one of the most iconic points along the route. Afterwards, we descend to a rural farmhouse where we will have dinner and rest.
Day 3: Descent to Cocora Valley
Minimum altitude: 2,400 m a.s.l.
Maximum altitude: 3,750 m a.s.l.
Distance: 14 km
After a delicious breakfast, we head toward Cocora Valley, home to the tallest palm trees in the world, located at 2,400 m a.s.l. We will hike approximately 14 km through the cloud forest, surrounded by mosses, bromeliads, and orchids. The hike ends in the majestic Cocora Valley, where a vehicle will transfer us back to Salento. The experience concludes with a delicious traditional lunch.
This route completes a journey full of nature, connection, and adventure through Los Nevados National Natural Park.
